Customer Feedback on Resin8 Doming Epoxy Resin
A Unicorn Moon: Very much worth the wait! It's is a joy to use as you don't need to warm it up - you can just use it at room temperature. The mix looks thicker from the start. Very easy to apply and well-behaved when being teased to the edges and into little places. I had several pieces that have been made using a variety of resins and each one has taken the Resin8 Doming Resin beautifully. The gloss is deep and the bubbles disperse really well with the last little ones succumbing to the warmth of the torch flame. I have used other resins that are applied and then cured under the UV lamp but I much prefer Resin8 Doming Resin as I do not have to sit and wait while my resin tops up its sun tan! Thank you Resin8 for this magical elixir!
General Information about Resin8 Doming Epoxy Resin
This resin is specifically designed for doming, although works really well for cold-enamelling, embedding and casting. Colour this resin with any of the non water based pigments available from Resin8 and try embedding objects or adding mica powder & glitter to make keepsake items. Please be aware that adding anything to epoxy resin will change its chemical properties. If you are adding alcohol inks DO NOT use a flame to remove bubbles, as alcohol is flammable.

Here are the important downloads which we advise you to read before you start working with this resin:
More information on health & safety while working with epoxy resins can be read on our Health & Safety page.
- You MUST wear nitrile gloves (or use a specialist resin barrier cream on your hands)
- You MUST wear a respirator when sanding partially-cured resin
- Ensure you work with this resin in a well ventilated room
- We advise you to wear safety goggles
- Avoid skin contact
- We advise against eating, drinking or smoking while working
- In case of eye contamination wash with plenty of water for 15 minutes and consult medical advice immediately
It is CRITICAL that you follow the instructions accurately. Do NOT change the mixing ratio - this will alter the properties of the resin and cause it to remain tacky.
Use 2 parts resin to 1 part hardener by weight (100:50g) to ensure a hard finish once set. Use separate, clean mixing cups for each part. We advise you to pour the hardener first and then the resin into one clean, larger cup. The mixed components should be thoroughly stirred for 3 minutes to ensure an even consistency - this is a long time... set a timer on your phone. Make sure that you mix slowly and thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of the mixing cup.
Resin8 Doming Epoxy Resin has a pot life of around 30 minutes, depending on the temperature of your workspace. Epoxy resins tend to heat up when poured in large volumes so we advise you to only mix the amount needed for use within the pot life of the product. We advise you to mix more than 50g and no more than 200g at one time.
This resin is designed to be used as a finishing doming layer but it can also be coloured with any non-water based pigments and powders on our site - opaque, transparent, metallic, etc. Apply by hand pouring. Temperature should be between 15ºC - 20ºC (UK room temperature) and humidity level below 70% (i.e. do not use in a room with drying laundry). A 2:1 mix will provide a hard, glossy finish. Make sure your resin piece is level. Pop any bubbles by hand using a cocktail stick, or use a heat gun or naked flame for a couple of seconds to aid bubble release. Avoid dimpling by holding the blowtorch or heat gun at least 20cm away.
If cured between 20ºC and 25ºC, this resin should be cured within 24 hours. We advise you to cure your resin pieces in a dust free environment, and keep in the dark for as long as possible. The full cure will be achieved after 7 days. It is not necessary, but if desired, you can post-cure this resin to maximise its properties. Allow the product to cure at room temperature for at least 24 hours, then heat to 40°C for 1 hour, followed by 60°C for 1 hour, followed by 80°C for 3 hours. To prevent any distortion during the post-cure cycle, the part should be placed on a thick, flat tile. When post-curing is complete, let the piece cool down slowly to room temperature, preferably in a craft oven. Sudden change in temperature can cause distortion or warping.
